A Hermit Thrush sits on a pokeberry bush branch, with a single pokeberry in its beak. The thrush has a white breast with brown spots and its back and head are golden brown. The pokeerries are deep glossy purple-black.

Hermit Thrushes (Catharus guttatus) are the last of their genus to migrate south in the winter. This individual is one of several that have been feasting on pokeberries in my yard for the past couple of days.
